Google Maps UK – satellite imagery

They’ve just updated the UK version to include satellite imagery, although the quality is a bit poor. Judging by the picture they’re also very old. Roughly 5 years ~

My school is on the cusp of where the imagery starts.

BurntFaceMan.com

Quite possibly the funniest thing i’ve seen in a long time.

Opt In Advertising

It seems this is the new age of advertising, not only are we constantly bombarded by advertising every waking second, but now we’re choosing to watch it. They’ve apparently learnt that if adverts are vaguely interesting we’ll line up to watch it.

BMW - Respect
Half naked girl selling a BMW RV1700

This advert is by BMW for their release of a pretty bike, the RV1700. It takes the form of a short lasting roughly 6 minutes and involves a fairly basic plot which is hacked with a machete to make it seem more provocative. Volve are also in on the interwebs advantages of reaching the ever growing “long tail”.

BMW – Respect Movie

Volve – Life On Board Project

If this is the direction that advertising is taking us then i’m all for it. It doesn’t seem so patronising as “subtly”, plastering Hollywood Movies or paying for phoney articles in magazines.

How teenagers are more “Zedonists” than hedonists

Edit: Article has vanished off the interwebs. Links removed.

The independent ran a great little article by Maxine Frith on how todays youth have mellowed out.

While the early 1990s were epitomised by the slackers of Generation X and the beginning of the new millennium by the over-indulged, celebrity-driven youngsters of Generation Y, the new “zedonists” (as opposed to hedonists) shun fame in favour of family and want their own businesses.

Thanks to Mike for the scannage and indeed the story. Visit his website for another opinion on the matter.

She later goes on to say we’d much rather go and have a curry with a few mates than party all night. While that’s true for me and a few of my friends i’m sure it isn’t the most representative of studies. It would probably be more accurate to say that all teenagers who read the independent are thoughtful, studious and well rounded people.

Some will however, always try and follow Coupland’s idyllic fantasy. I’ll be giving it my all to reverse the trend, click here for starters.

Mike Horlock and his Digital Life

Yes kids, Mike is a 21st century man. He’s not scared to moisturise, he’s not scared to express his emotions and most of all he’s wired up to the interweb.

the popes car has appeared on the german ebay and has become the most viewed item ever with over 5 million hits. journalists are not allowed to publish the link because of rogue bidders, but you already know what my views on cencorship/privacy etc are lol so here it is:

Pope’s Car Ebayed

You can check out his Blog at http://michaelhorlock.com. He’ll tell you the real address is at digi something or other but trust me Mike, that’s a marketing nightmare. An odd obsession to Pete Doherty is also forming which i’m not to sure whether to be weary about.

Mike’s kindly offered to write some short pieces on London life every week, much like Richard does with Music. If anybody else wants a slot, do ask.

I think i’ve completed a nice Journal redesign, something i’ll try not to touch for a while. I think it gives the Journal a nice homely feel and although some have commented on its campness I feel it just reflects my feminine side. It’s nice knowing that no other site looks like mine.
